What's On

Friends Open Day

Come to the Friends of Elizabeth Gaskell’s House Open Day and help us to raise funds for the House*.

Visit the House, meet some of The Friends and see the benefits of becoming a Friend of one of Manchester’s Literary and Historical Treasures.
From 12 noon to 3pm listen to short talks about William’s chair, Charlotte Bronte’s portrait, the servants’ exhibition, the garden and the “Manchester quilt”.

For younger visitors, there will be a quiz about the servants and Victorian costumes for dressing-up.

A light lunch, delicious cakes, tea, coffee and soft drinks will be on sale in the Tea Room and we will have piano music in the Drawing Room.

The House is open from 11am to 4.30pm. Usual House admission (under 16s free)

*We need help to continue to maintain the House and allow it to remain open to the public, as we do not receive any Council or Government funding.
