The Great Victorian Bake Off

Are you a keen baker? Would you like to find out more about Victorian recipes? Can you make a Victorian inspired cake to become our star baker?

Organised by history students from Manchester Metroplitan University, the Victorian Bake Off is a fundraising event for Elizabeth Gaskell's House. Working in conjunction with the Special Collections at MMU the students have specially selected a few recipes from authentic Victorian recipe books.

Whilst entry into the competition is encouraged it is not compulsory. Recipe cards will be sent out on booking. Your entries will be included with some prepared by volunteers at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House. The bake off will be judged by a Victorian reimagining of Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, in character as Elizabeth and William Gaskell. Awards will be given for skill, originality and effort!

There will also be the opportunity to view the original archives and have a chat with the Special Collections librarian from MMU.

Tickets for the event are £5 per person and include a free drink on arrival, samples of cakes and optional entry into the Bake Off.

There are a maximum of 30 spaces available.
