First Edition Thursdays: The Life of Charlotte Brontë

Visitors during autumn will get an extra special treat, as our volunteers will be showcasing a different rare book from our collections store every week.

We begin with Charlotte Brontë’s biography, written by her friend, our very own Elizabeth Gaskell. This book caused a bit of stir when it was published, so come along to see this first edition, complete with its libellous text.

Available free as part of your usual visit, book any afternoon slot (tickets valid for 12 months).

Thursday 2 October, 1:30pm – 3pm

Gift £10 to Celebrate 10 years.

Keeping Elizabeth Gaskell’s House open to the public remains a real financial challenge. Our incredible team needs your help and support to continue the story long into the future. During our anniversary year we are asking our supporters to give £10 to support the House and to help us raise £10,000. You can make a donation via JustGiving.
