‘It’s great that the Herizons creative women’s group, born from Gaskell: The Musical, is going from strength to strength and now have the honour of opening the International Women’s Day Event at the Town Hall.’ enJOY Arts.
This morning our Herizons group opened International Women’s Day in Manchester Town Hall.
Herizons is a group of women meet weekly to take part in creative activity in the family home of Elizabeth Gaskell, inspired by strong Manchester women, past and present. The song the performed this morning ‘Let the Women Rise’ was written collaboratively as part of ‘Gaskell the Musical’. When project funding ended for Gaskell the Musical, the women reunited to pitch their idea at ‘Soup’ and were successful in receiving finding which has enabled creative practicioners, Claire Mooney and enJOY arts to continue to work with the group.
Claire Mooney outlined how the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day in Manchester is Strong Manchester Women, commenting that ‘it’s great to be working with the group who will be performing at Manchester Town Hall, in the home of Elizabeth Gaskell – all of them strong Manchester women!’
Well done to you all. We look forward to seeing what next for the group!
