Online Talk: Beyond Uncle Tom’s Cabin; Harriet Beecher Stowe, Frances E.W. Harper and Harriet Jacobs with Bonnets at Dawn

Bonnets at Dawn are back with a fresh new look at Elizabeth Gaskell’s houseguest, the abolitionist and author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe. Find about her connections to George Eliot, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and a host of other women writers including Frances E.W. Harper and Harriet Jacobs. Harper was among the first African American women to publish a novel and the very first to publish a short story while Jacobs’ own escape from slavery led her to write Incidents in the Life of A Slave Girl, now recognised as an American classic. Join us to mark Black History Month and re-evaluate their contribution to American literature – all in Lauren and Hannah’s own unique style.
