Full-day Spinning Workshop
Learn this wonderful traditional craft in a full-day workshop in the inspirational surroundings of Elizabeth Gaskell’s House. Inspired by our Ruskin exhibition, we’re offering you the chance to learn this ancient skill, as championed and admired by John Ruskin himself.
At this day-long workshop, you’ll take a seat at a spinning wheel under the guidance of expert woolcraft and textiles tutor, Dee Sayce, and learn to handspin your own colourful and textured yarns using sheep fleece. Your yarn can then be used in a knitting, crochet or craft project.
In this workshop you will learn the basics of spinning, including how to:
· prepare fleece ready for spinning
· spin on a drop spindle
· spin using a spinning wheel
· ply and make a skein
By the end of the day, you should have the basic knowledge and confidence to continue with the craft and to be able to spin at home.
The workshop is limited to six places. All material and equipment are provided. Suitable for beginners.
