Online Course: Female lines- Women Writers from Jane Austen to Elizabeth Gaskell
Join Sherry Ashworth for a fresh approach to the classic women writers you know and love. Explore the lives and times of the blockbuster novelists of the 19th century including Jane Austen, Mary Shelley, Charlotte Brontë and Emily Brontë. Each writer was famous for her social observation, comedy, gothic or romantic writing. Under Sherry’s expert guidance you can uncover the threads running through their writing and consider how they culminate in the work of Elizabeth Gaskell – a ground-breaking writer who crossed genres.
This month’s session will focus on Jane Austen.
Grab your ticket and join the session for a fun and informative closer look at the texts and contexts of each novelist. Alongside Sherry, further insight will be provided by guest speakers at some sessions.
The course is suitable for the general reader who wants to delve deeper into 19th century writing. Readers will be encouraged to discuss works during the Zoom sessions and numbers are limited to allow an inclusive discussion with chance for all to take part. Please note there is no expectation you will read a novel every session but a reading list will be provided.
