Online Talk: Literary Locations – Finding Elizabeth Gaskell

As part of the 10 year anniversary celebrations of the opening of Elizabeth Gaskell’s House, we’re celebrating the real-life homes that inspired this incredible writer. You are invited on a special online literary journey looking for the real locations of Elizabeth Gaskell’s novels and short stories.

Drawing Room

Dr Diane Duffy takes you on a virtual visit to the houses and homes that featured in Victorian classics including Cranford, North and South, Mary Barton, Wives and Daughters and many more. Extracts from Elizabeth’s writing guide the way from working class homes in the industrial city to country piles in the beautiful English countryside.

Join us for a look at the original locations of Elizabeth Gaskell’s work and find some new insights into the world of ‘one of the greatest female novelists of all time’.
