Online Course: Short Stories – Janet’s Repentance

Delve into the dark side with Sherry Ashworth’s new course on Victorian short stories. Keep your tissues to the ready as you shudder and weep over two of Elizabeth Gaskell’s stories, Lizzie Leigh and Lois the Witch. Or you may be shocked by George Eliot’s tale of marital abuse in Janet’s Repentance, and experience the mute horror of Dickens’ The Signalman.

George Eliot

All these stories are beautifully crafted and all tackle difficult subjects, weaving between the supernatural and ‘real’ life to make us think deeply about our hidden selves. Each one also relates in interesting ways to the writer’s longer fictions.

So what are you waiting for? Come and join us!
