What's On

The Poetry of Humble Life – Friends Event

An entertainment of readings giving glimpses of working-class life from working-class poets with a short background talk about the poets and a humble lunch, including traditional “clap-bread,” as mentioned in Mary Barton, and regional cheeses.

Please advise us of any allergies/dietary requirements by emailing Friends@elizabethgaskellhouse.co.uk.

William Gaskell gave lectures on this theme and Elizabeth  featured such poetry in Mary Barton.

Don’t miss this frenzy of humour, pathos, mischief and anger!
