Elizabeth Gaskell’s House named Hidden Gem by Visit England

Staff and volunteers at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House are delighted to have been awarded a Hidden Gem accolade by VisitEngland.

This Accolade is awarded annually to participants in the VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme and acknowledges the high-quality visitor experience delivered by the staff and volunteers at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House.

VisitEngland’s Visitor Attraction Accolades are awarded to participants of the VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme across a range of tourism attractions from historic houses, gardens, country parks and farm attractions to galleries, museums, churches and cathedrals.

Participating attractions are supported by a network of highly trained and experienced independent assessors, who deliver advice and guidance on improving and promoting the quality, accessibility and sustainability of their offer.

Director, Sally Jastrzebski-Lloyd and Katy Ellis, Volunteer and Collections Manager, received the award at a special event at The British Motor Museum in Warwickshire on 12 November.

House Director Sally Jastrzebski-Lloyd:

“We are thrilled to have been recognised by VisitEngland for this award, which reflects the ongoing training, developments and enthusiasm of our small team of staff and volunteers. We constantly review our visitor feedback to ensure we are delivering the very best service and meeting the changing expectations and needs of visitors. This award is validation of all our hard-work and comes at the end of our 10-year anniversary celebrations, which makes it extra poignant!”

Elizabeth Gaskell’s House is a small literary house and museum that prides itself on delivering a hands-on and immersive experience for visitors from all over the world. During 2025 the House celebrated 10 years of being open the public after being saved from near dereliction.
