Our legendary second-hand book sales (held every second Sunday) is the city’s biggest (and perhaps best) second-hand book sale, with two rooms crammed with second-hand books of all genres.

We are looking for at least two new volunteers to help support the sales on a regular basis, to sort donations and stock, price books and set-up/pack-up books for each sale. Ideally we would love someone who has experience of working in a book shop, library or second-hand book shop, but this is by no means essential. What is essential is a love of books and an enthusiasm for supporting Manchester’s only literary House.

In return for your time and energy volunteers get first pick of the books and a 50% discount on any books you want to buy. Plus as much tea and coffee as you can drink throughout the day. We also have regular social events and training workshops that you will have the opportunity to take part in.

  • The book sales are held every second-Sunday and book-sale volunteers need to be available 10am-4.45pm on these days.
  • Volunteers need to be able to lift boxes of books and help set-up/pack up the books
  • We are looking for at least two volunteers so that we can spread the work and time – but the more people we have the easier it is for everyone!
