First Edition Thursdays: The One I Knew Best of All

Visitors during autumn will get an extra special treat, as our volunteers will be showcasing a different rare book from our collections store every week.

An open book on a patchwork cushion.

Did you know Frances Hodgson Burnett (of The Secret Garden fame) was from Manchester? With this week’s first edition of her memoir we can track the influence of Elizabeth Gaskell’s city on her life.

Available free as part of your usual visit, book any afternoon slot (tickets valid for 12 months).

Thursday 23 October, 1:30pm- 3pm

Gift £10 to Celebrate 10 years.

Keeping Elizabeth Gaskell’s House open to the public remains a real financial challenge. Our incredible team needs your help and support to continue the story long into the future. During our anniversary year we are asking our supporters to give £10 to support the House and to help us raise £10,000. You can make a donation via JustGiving.
